U.S. to revise Chinese passenger airline ban after Beijing move

The U.S. Transportation Department plans to issue a revised order in the coming days that is likely to allow some Chinese passenger airline flights to continue, government and airline officials said. On Thursday, China said it would ease coronavirus restrictions to allow in more foreign carriers, shortly after Washington said it planned to bar Chinese passenger airlines from flying to the United States by June 16 due to Beijing's curbs on U.S. carriers. Pretty much as predicted. This will give the Chinese four flights weekly unless the Administration determines only two can fly. It is not clear if Hong Kong is to maintain its more favored position as Cathay has not been mentioned in any article I have seen.

Vancouver, Taipei and Japanese airports will pick up business as intermediate stops until we get resolution. With the push by the US to "bring home" industry many are already locating out of China to Viet Nam, Cambodia, Thailand and India to avoid tariffs while the US is restricting student visas to non-STEM disciplines only.This decoupling will continue for the next few years unless Biden is elected.
