I am guessing that the A220 with full pax & bags could not fill the tanks? So by increasing the MGTOW and raising the MZFW by the same amount while keeping the BOW the same, Airbus can now add about an hours worth of range just by the stroke of a pen? Pretty nice to have those margins already built in to aircraft. Well done.

Ummm, I kinda think by raising the MZFW and max landing weight, they are acknowledging that the average operator is not utilizing the range built in to the airplane and is leaving payload behind because they aren't carrying the fuel and the MZFW limitation costs them payload. Mail, freight whatever in cargo. They haven't raised the MGTOW yet according to the article, but it is in the mix. The 'stretch' will make a very viable competitor to the A320 and MAX. JMHO

Does say alot of good things about the basic design. An easy path to greater operating profit for airlines.

A bit skeptical about reliability of GTF engines (ask the swiss about experiences), Could the ZFW rise to accommodate the spare GTF engine to be kept onboard ? :)

From a dispatchers view.. this is a bit dangerous in that there is thst much less wiggle room for W&B calculations especially for winter weights. Just saying.

Increasing the ZFW and the MGTOW should have no bearing on balance only slightly different performance values for take off and landing distances due to the higher weights.
