Accident Following Engine Failure At Takeoff Claims Decathlon Pilot
About 90 seconds after takeoff from runway 15 at Toronto’s Buttonville Municipal airport the solo student pilot aboard a Bellanca 8KCAB Decathlon transmitted a “Mayday,” on the YKZ tower frequency. The pilot cited an irregularly running engine for the emergency. Witnesses watched the pilot bank the aircraft hard right and begin rapidly descending until it struck the ground. The aircraft was destroyed by both impact forces and a post-impact fire and the student pilot died in the accident. (www.flyingmag.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Transport Canada should have investigated both the history of the pilot and the C of R before re-issuing another student pilot permit to an individual having logged more than 120 hours, especially in his own plane? I’m going to guess that the Certificate of Insurance was invalid as well? Also, why did the flight instructor sign him off for solo flight and fail to report him to TC for illegally carrying passengers?
