A very unique aircraft (only 1 of these has been made), this guy got to fly on one and got a lot of nice pictures of the interior as well. (gelio.livejournal.com) Más...

Congratulations to all those who have designed, manufactured this gigantic bird of the air,
a big congratulations also to pilots, technicians and staff who attend this machine for these missions. And congratulations to the photographers for this beautiful photo essay shows gigantism and technicality of this extraordinary aircraft.

Thank you for preparing such an interesting tour of a very interesting airplane.

Absolutely incredible...this aircraft is a full 75 feet longer than a WWII corvette and only 25 feet shorter than frigate. I wouldn't imagine they would have a lot of spare parts hanging around except those they can cannibalize from the partially built second aircraft.

many parts are identical to the An-124

There ought be an award for this GREAT photo essay. The author loves A/C like everyone here. Hope he does another essay...like the TU95.

Am I the only one who find that photo essay most realistic if read aloud in broken eeenglish with rooshan aksent? Is fun that way, dah?

(no disrespect for the Russians, just noticed the writing was a little off and as I was hearing it in my head, my brain just filled in the accent)

I find it always quite odd that English native speakers, the vast majority of whom are not able to form even the simplest sentences in any language other than their own, would consider something like this "broken English". I for one thought that Slava's very informative captions under the breathtakingly beautiful photography were the icing on the cake of a truly outstanding piece of aviation photography.

As I said, it was intended with no disrespect to the author. The use of the word "broken" may have overstated it, but there are enough spelling and grammar mistakes that it was apparent to me that this came from someone who was not taught English first. I was not criticizing the work, I just found it humorous that, in my inner voice, the narrative played out in a Russian accent. I find it less humorous that there always seems to be someone ready to pounce at the slighest hint of offense. Just because I don't effuse compliments for the pictures doesn't mean I don't appreciate the work. I'm not a pilot, and can only imagine the skill required to get that behemoth off the ground by all involved in the operation. I am also a wannabe photographer, and the effort to get those pictures is not lost on me either.

Now that is one HUMONGOUS aircraft. I wonder, if that plane would ever be converted to a passenger service, how many people could fit in it.

This is an absolute treat to see 'behind the curtain' of a truly amazing ship. My understanding is that hull #2 was 70% complete at the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Both ships languished for much of the the 1990's up to early 2000 or so? Lots of scavenging went on to service the AN-124 fleet (which the 225 was based heavily upon) Hopefully this one will stay airworthy for a long time, and perhaps the other will join it.

FANTASTIC AS IT WAS, AS A PILOT, I WOULD HAVE APPRECIATED 100 TIMES BETTER IF THE DATA HAD BEEN GIVEN IN STANDARD FORM, NOT METRIC.

As I said above, it was in standard form for the rest of the world, and you my commenter Twit need to get out more often!

Impressive to look at, but very primitive by todays standards in many ways (refuel panel, electronics bay, cockpit).

Fantastic set of photos, great find. It seems that the tire carcass is showing on photo #37 (the one with the caption, "The maintenance engineer whose specialization is hydraulic system and chassis"). Is that much wear normal, or am I not seeing things correctly?

What is the age of this beast ? Flight deck similar to the Concorde, may it rest in peace.

Loved the TWA sticker on the escape hatch.

I was fortunate enough to see this baby fly in Abbotsford BC in 1990 during an airshow it was a very impressive performance!!! Needless to say it was parked quite far from the c5 galaxy at the time.

I would rather pay to be a guest passenger on 225 then Space X etc. I was involved in the litigation re the shoot down of Korean Air and I then thought the 747 was the height of mankind's transportation technology. Anyone want to sponsor me for a trip on 225?

fantastic presentation,as a pilot I would have appreciated it, far more , if the data were given in non metric.
bentwing60
bentwing60 3
Let's just say that as a pilot, most of the rest of the civil world is metric and it helps to be able to switch gears. Like when you order fuel. As for the post, none better and a truly one of a kind bird! Built, I think, to carry the Buran, known as the Soviet space shuttle.
