Give me a break. This airline charges $9 fares. They want to charge you to carry on a bag. With idiocy reigning in their business sense, why shouldn't this company fail?
When the airlines learn how to accurately price their product and provide a decent service to the paying customers, they will then become viable again. Until then, if a pilot accepts a job with a horribly-run operation, they should know the risks involved.
