Reported Bird Strike Forced Plane Into Holding Pattern Above LAX

Enviado

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A reported bird strike forced a domestic flight into an extending holding pattern above the city before returning to Los Angeles International Airport early Thursday. Spirit Airlines flight 310 left LAX for Ft. Lauderdale around 9:50 p.m. Wednesday, according to the airline’s flight status guide. (losangeles.cbslocal.com) Más...

I understand it was a low cost bird strike, only $ 1.98 damage because the bird did not have any carry on.

Flight track for Spirit 310 shows both the original flight and the replacement flight, in a single track -- http://flightaware.com/live/flight/NKS310/history/20141030/0400Z/KLAX/KFLL

This is one of the most poorly written articles I have read lately.

*The flight may not have been able to immediately land after the bird strike because the pilot did not declare an emergency, Spirit Airlines spokesman Paul Berry said, so the flight was placed in a holding pattern, or because landing with full fuel tanks was considered too difficult.*

Where was the bird strike? Lose an engine? Overweight landings are not 'too difficult', just require a maint inspection.

Can these people not afford an editor?

I just not sure why both flights are on the same track.

A Bird Strike.. UGH... Let me see, it was not enough damage to declare an emergency, but it was too much to continue to his destination.... I think the big problem was the Left and Right Yolk Actuator, or a short between the pilots headset :) ..

If it was a bad enough to return to the field, it was a good enough to continue to destination and do the inspection required there. If it was a bad enough to return, then it would have been worth the inspections for an over weight landing inspection... This is a BS Article.
