1909 French aviator Louis Bleriot (bleh-ree-OH'),automotive lighting engineer; became the first person to fly an airplane across the English Channel, traveling from Calais (kah-LAY') to Dover in 37 minutes.(from a news short at windstream.com) Also: one of the first monoplanes plus a little known fact about Bleriot; his purchase of the fammous French Co.
