Rockefeller billionaire's son dead after single-engine plane crashes minutes after takeoff in Westchester
Richard Rockefeller died at the controls of his private Piper Meridian PA-46 when the single-engine craft crashed Friday in miserable weather conditions minutes after takeoff at Westchester County Airport. At the risk of being labeled a ..."doctorist??" It does look sadly like so many incidents involving doctors (who I respect immensely) and complex airplanes (every pilot knows about the "doctor killer Bonanzas). It is of course very possible the gentleman could have had a seizure, a stroke, heart attack or any number of incapacitating issues...which might be discovered if an autopsy is done.
I am sorry for the family's loss, but a man of his resources that flies himself, let alone solo into bad weather, has a fool for a pilot.
Well, it didn't give totals, but it said he was a veteran pilot and had flown for decades so he wasn't a weekend wonder. It said he was a hands on type of guy so I imagine the thought of a pilot never entered his mind.
Sad he lost his life.
IFR rated pilots have to honestly assess their abilities to fly into miserable weather and know they are proficient enough to indeed fly on instruments alone! If not sure stay on the ground until the weather improves.

Well,, he may not have thought the weather was that big a deal. Whatever happened was quick, barely past liftoff; not even time for a mayday. It really don't sound like wx. As fast as it happened, it sounds more mechanical. That said, maybe a combination of both,
