Qantas cops another fine in US over baggage fees disclosure
QANTAS has been fined $US100,000 by US authorities for failing to properly disclose baggage fees, the group's second fine revealed this week. The airline violated a new US Department of Transportation rule requiring carriers and ticketing agents to prominently inform consumers that they might have to pay baggage fees. Qantas fleet is always loaded to max TO weights. Can you blame them? You'll nvr catch a Qantas machine operating with a tail wind..they need the full slab.
This isn't to do with their TO weight. It for failing to disclose on their website in the ticket price. US started requiring that a few months back and is serious in the enforcement
No W you are wrong here. This was an attempt by the MBAs to get more revenue from the baggage hold. Every Qantas flight is always at MTO weight. That how they make their profits. Right up to the last kilogram..on the limit for the 13 hour flights they service. The fleet is pushed to the limit.
I don't disagree that they may be loaded to the gills but the DOT here put out a new ruling sometime back that all those bag fees and any other fees had to be disclosed on their website or at point of ticket purchase so there wouldn't be any surprises for the pax at travel time. Can't remember exactly when but I'm thinkin' it was back in the spring, maybe even a little earlier.
I see gottya RIGHT.
