Airline seating policy on unaccompanied minors causes stir

I can't speak for the rest, and not even DAL lately, BUT, last fall, we sent our Grandson to FL and back on DAL from KLIT. This required a connection thru KATL. I can tell you that kid could not even go to the bathroom without being monitored by DAL people. They have an area in KATL that they take all to awaiting connections and whoever sent or is receiving the child is notified of the least delay or problem. Them folks got their act together

Almost all the worlds major airlines have clear policies regarding unaccompanied travel by minors. However, this airlines reaction was, to say the least, odd. Having worked for one of the worlds largest carriers and seeing daily the care taken by flight and ground crews for the welfare of minors, Virgins policy is overboard. Their policy assumes that ALL men are paedophiles.

McGirr was sitting next to two boys aged approximately eight and 10 on a flight from Brisbane when a flight attendant approached him and told him it was policy not to allow men to sit by unchaperoned children. According to the Times, he "said the attendant then asked a fellow female passenger, 'Can you please sit in this seat because he is not allowed to sit next to minors.'"
