Man crosses Alps using helium balloons tied to a chair
Clearly taking his cues from Pixar's Up or the lesser known Danny Deckchair, American adventurer Jonathan Trappe found a unique way to cross the Alps. Last week, the 38-year old from North Carolina, strapped 54 helium balloons to a chair, took flight, and soared high above the iconic European mountain range. Phileas Fogg (and David Niven as well) should be churning in their graves after seeing this ungainly and outright tacky way to cross the Alps (LOL.

Don't ask WHY I checked the registration. I REALLY don't know what made me do it. :)

I know I did the same thing
This is not a new trick. Larry Walters did this in LA in 1982. TWA and Delta spotted him at 16,000ft in a lawn chair. He took a CB radio to alert airplanes (who has a CB radio onboard their plane?) and a pellet gun to shoot out baloons when he wanted to land. He did not know how fast weather baloons go up, and he got scared and cold. He dropped his gun, and later came down in Long Beach. He tangled in power lines and caused a 20 minute outage. He was fined about $ 1,500 by the FAA for not having an airworthiness certificate or a two way radio in an airport traffic area.
Poor man had deamons, and shot himself about a decade later. Larry Lawnchair was the inspiration for Danny Deckchair and UP!
