Dallas/Ft. Worth International: a Busy Airport that is only getting busier

Enviado

The chief executive officer of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), Jeff Fegan, doesn't agree with the assertion that his airport is at war with Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). He refuses to concede there is a battle or even a skirmish. But the fact remains that Dallas has popped up on the radar faster than a speeding Boeing 747 bypassing Los Angeles, primarily thanks to Qantas, with their newly-crowned "world's longest route." Thanks preacher1 for the kudos for TX. But, it's not just KDAL, it's also KFTW, ergo KDFW. It is a monster of an airport for sure. Been there many times flying out of KAUS. A bear when trying to find a person though. Wife flew from EDDF, I went to term 6, she was at term 4. She borrowed a cell and we connected. I'll be moving back to TX soon. KMSO is just a tad too cool in winter.

Well, we really can't forget Alliance either but it never was that much of a factor.I think that it was one of them Ross Perot deals that he actuall wanted to grow into a DFW type deal but that's one he lost.lol

One Christmas time the radio reporting the weather said "The overnight low in Honolulu was a brisk 57 degrees, exactly 100 degrees warmer than Missoula, MT". I think that qualifies as 'a tad too cool' for me as well.

10-4 on both. KMSO is a nice area but as you say it is a tad cool. North Texas can get a dose every now and then but not near as regular as up there. Back in the early days, I had a 2 hour connection there one time as a pax on AA. Supposed to be same terminal change so plenty of time. Our inbound was 15 minutes late, they made a last minute receiving gate change on us and we wound up at opposite end of airport. Train was down and we had to walk/run it all. By the time we got to connection gate, they were already boarding.lol

Well, it may be #8 in pax count but it is ceratinly bigger than that is physical size, close to #1 if not there. A good example of building an airport from the ground up, as a gateway and industrial function, rather than just an expense from the town, with the unheard of notion that infrastucture MUST be maintained and facilities kept modern. Money generated by the airport stayed at the airport(what a novel idea). It was built when KDAL got max'd out and was landlocked. They basically doubled the size of KDAL when they built it. They can say no skirmish with LAX but they are promoting the heck out of it as an alternative gateway. Personally, if you are coming from Asia and are going into Texas or the middle or Eastern US, you would be foolish not to use it. God Bless Texas
