After the recent article in the New York Times, there no mention of the abysmal training program and maintenance practices at Lion Air? Oh yeah, the author covered that...the deep corruption that permeates all of the Indonesian government. Big surprise!!

Depends on who "they" is. The Indonesian investigators not only would, they already did (my initial comment includes this information, you just have to scroll about 8 pages down to see it).
You mean the "extra" safety features and "extra" training that Boeing failed to provide unless one pays a premium?
I might offer, even sitting on the outside, it's somewhat more complicated than that.
