The day a plane with 110 people disappeared into the Everglades
Twenty years ago today ValuJet Flight 592 took off from Miami’s airport and then plunged into the muck after a fire in the cargo hold. (www.miamiherald.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Sutch a sad event. I rememeber doing a school project on this a few years ago(had nothing to do with aviation actually).Shows how important even the smallest cargo safety infraction can cause a tragedy.
Ahhh yes, the Everglades. I was a flight engineer with Eastern a hundred years ago & Eastern did a lot of air work over the Glades. We were in a 7 @ 2:00am over the Glades, checking out a new co-pilot from the Navy & we went into a crossfeed problem & lost all 4 engines at 6000 feet. Really gets quiet.
In the days after this tragedy, there was a lot of commentary implying the gender of the captain, and the quality of the pilots given that it was a budget airline. When the actual cause came to light, these scurrilous accusations quietly limped away.
"The caps would have cost a total of $9.16, including tax."
Its beyond sad poor families. Rip pax and crew.
I got to meet Greg Feith several times. I could not imagine what he experienced on a personal level.
