With the sole exception of the fact that it (KBUF) is still at the same location (the intersection of Genessee and Cayuga Sts) that it was when I was a teen, KBUF today bears absolutely no resemblance to the BUF I hung out at in the 1960s. I truly enjoyed my visit back to Buffalo and I REALLY enjoyed being able to go airside at the now ultra-modern KBUF. I deeply appreciate my escorted photo opportunity (which is something else that is 100% different from when I was a teen; back in the 1960s, I was able to go out on the terminal ramps and also right next to the taxiways without any escort). Ahh, the good old days .... lol
Great shot Gary! Beautiful sunlight!
Definitely more modern than its 1960s counterpart, but KBUF (for the most part, especially the passenger areas except for baggage claim) is still stuck in the 1990s when they re-did the terminal... That being said, they have done a decent job with the new baggage claim and passenger exits, but they definitely need to focus their efforts on the ticketing areas as well as the gate areas and bringing the whole place into the 21st century... great photo as always Gary!
Hi, Darryl. TYVM, my friend.
Howdy, D.B. I saw construction / expansion on the apron and I was told it was to make the apron larger so as to accommodate heavies that may need to be diverted from Toronto as well as enable larger a/c on regular routings into BUF. And the airport was selected as the Best in Customer Satisfaction (Mid Size Airport category) in 2021 by JD Power. Admittedly, the Ticketing area should be improved but please believe me when I assure you that KBUF's is far better than many other Mid Sized Airports. I know; I live in Reno and RNO is waaaaay behind the times. We are a Mid Size too and 20+ years ago the city liked to tout itself as The Biggest Little City ... and back then it WAS. Well, over the past two decades the city had grown but the airport certainly hasn't kept pace. Of course, neither RNO nor BUF are remotely close to being anything like the major airports (like SFO, LAS, etc. by me and NYC, Toronto, etc by you) but BUF is the 2nd largest in NYS and RNO is the second largest in NV, and I travel fairly often thru both .... and your airport makes ours seem stalled in a "Biggest Little Airport" mindset. There HAVE been improvements but to give you an example: RNO has two concourses and a short (VERY short) main terminal section between them. But until just a few years ago, a passenger arriving on a flight in one concourse had to exit the secure area of that concourse, walk straight ahead for about 75 seconds, and go back thru TSA to get into the only other concourse. And bear in mind, BOTH concourses merged into the VERY short center terminal section. Now, it IS true that RNO is not a "connecting-flight' type airport so there weren't hundreds of folks leaving one concourse to get a connection in the other one, but if you could see how ridiculously short our center terminal is you would easily understand how ludicrous the situation was. It has been "remedied' now. Naturally, I recognize that you are far more knowledgeable of what BUF needs to do to forge ahead than I'll ever be, but when I pass thru there (to me) it is definitely deserving of its 2021 ranking as #1 Mid Sized in the country. And compared to ours here, yours is ultra-modern. (Grin) Thanx for the kind comment re: my pics, and please keep your shutter snappin' there; I really love seeing the pics from there and every time I come back there I always go to all the super spotting locations for some shots. (Tip of my Spotter's cap to you ....)
