A very unusual day yesterday. Not only did I finally manage to get a pic of this one in daytime light, but I also captured a Delta Skyteam livery, snapped the entire sequence of a declared emergency landing of a small privately-owned Piper (concluded safely), and photographed the strangest landing of a UPS heavy that I have ever seen. The UPS landing still has me very confused. I began clicking pics of it as it smoked the mains while touching down just before passing the 8,000 foot marker of 34L ... and I ended my photo series as it came rocking and smoking to a dead stop right in front of my position directly next to the 7,000 foot marker -- meaning (as is very obvious from my photo series) that it went from airborne to an absolute stop in less than 1,500 feet. Why? I have absolutely no clue. I even looked around to see if there was something that had suddenly intruded on the runway such as maybe a coyote or loose dog or perhaps even a vehicle or another aircraft; however, I saw nothing but 7,000 more feet of empty runway. The deceleration after touchdown was so sudden that the nose dropped and the tail went up as it came to an unbelieveably hard and fast stop. When it stopped, the nose rocked back up as the tail rocked down, and those motions are plainly obvious in my photo series -- a photo series that consists of high speed shutter STILL shots, NOT a video. I'm betting I'll never see another landing THAT intense by any heavybird ever again in my few remaining years above the dirt. lol A very unusual event during a very unusual day of spotting.

Great shot and catch Gary!

Great shot, Gary! And that is a strange story. I wonder what was happening on the flight deck that made them want/need to execute such a landing. Hmmm...?

I would be proud to fly on this plane

Great shot, Gary. As a friend said when he saw it - "I didn't know whether to salute it or stick a letter in it!"

Just kidding; great livery!
