Sikorsky S-70 (16-5769)
A Sikorsky MH-60S Seahawk (165769) of the Navy's "Longhorns" SAR (Search and Rescue) Team at NAS Fallon comes past us while participating in a "downed flier" pilot rescue exercise.
Comments
We were on a nine-mile hike through the mountains east of KNFL when we (sort of) blundered into the middle of the exercise. US Navy personnel had gone right by us earlier and we had suspected there might be some type of training exercise they were heading out to prepare, but we lost sight of them in the mountains. We did not realize that we were encroaching into the midst of the exercise until this SAR helicopter came up to us. We reversed our route and cleared out. Because we had to backtrack a bit, our nine-mile hike ended up being ten and a half miles. lol
Interesting catch Gary!
