de Havilland Dash 8-400 (N425QX) - Yep, I know this one has been junked, and I understand the reasons why, but it sure was a fabulously colorful sight to catch on camera, especially on a nice sunny morning.br /QXEs now-scrapped N425QX, decked out in Horizons "25th Anniversary" livery, is shown here a few years ago as it taxied south toward runway 34L at Reno Tahoe International on a bright sunny summer morning. Within 15 months of this capture, repeated and costly MX issues with this particular fleetbird would result in it being wfu and (I think) it was eventually sliced up.

If there is anyone out there who knows for certain what eventually happened to this airframe, I'd be interested in knowing. I've checked and I've read two possibilities: 1) that it has been completely cut up, and 2) that it is still sitting, untouched, somewhere in a QXE maintenance back lot. I'm curious because, if it IS still sitting stuffed in a corner somewhere, does it still have this livery paint on it?

Gary, I read on one of the snob sites that this bird was indeed cut up but first served as a flight attendant training body for Westjet Encore prior to their debut of the type. I recently took a picture out at YYZ and in the dim fuzzy distance I think I found your bird. I'll be posting the photo soon so keep an eye out. It rests under the nose of an Air Canada 777 I was photographing. She is indeed cut up and identifying her with certainty might be difficult but that paint job is a dead giveaway!

Mark, those old bones you caught in the background of your Air Canada snap are, without a doubt, the remnants of this one. Thank you for answering my query and providing definite proof as to where this one ended its days. (Wave)

Skittles! Yep she was sold back to Bombardier in 2009 (along with 424QX) and both were scrapped. These planes were not bought bought from the factory, instead they were bought by a Chinese airline, and then QX bought them. Both frames were maintenance heavy and then they sold them back to BBA for scrap. 425 still lives on as a WestJet Encore trainer, and 424 is a soda can.

Colin ... TYVM for the reply. "Skittles?" (Big grin) Now THAT is an appropriate nickname. lol
If you get a sec, check out Mark Thomas's post (recent) of an Air Canada 777. You will see the few chunks that are all that is now left of "Skittles."
