The two aircraft used in The High and the Mighty exteriors (one of my all time favorite films) were DC-4s (converted C-54s). I once had the "pleasure" of flying a redeye charter from OAK to LGA on a DC-4 (late 50s). Unforgettable! Not much appetite for breakfast the next morning. Still love the DC-3 through DC-7, especially the DC-6.
