Beautiful photo! Everything, composition, light, lovely aircraft.
CAP? ( Civil Air Patrol ) maybe?
Very likely a T-41C or a C172 painted to look like one. T-41C was used years ago for primary flight training and still found in USAF Base Aero Clubs. I trained at Peterson AFB Aero Club in these and recall a fuel-injected 200 HP engine but other than that, a pretty standard C172.
Robins AFB Aero Club inherited a couple of T-41s from the Air Force Academy back in the 90s. Also equipped with a 200HP engine, ancient panel and no back seat!
US Army had these as well. They had rear seats, I rode with a couple warrants in the evening when I was stationed at Ft. Eustis in 1972. Guess they were time builders, these officers were experienced pilots.T-41's.
