SUD-EST SE-210 Caravelle (OE-LCO)
This is a Post Card I purchased in the early 1970's. I did not photograph this image. It depicts a number of aircraft at the airport in Zurich Switzerland. The Austrian Airlines is a SE-210 Caravelle twin engine jet. Boarding and departing the aircraft is all done by those portable staircases that mesh with the cabin doors.
No Gangways, Skybridges or Jet Bridges back then. Iberia, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, and Swissair joing the Caravelle on the Tarmac.
Comments
Interesting shot. The Swissair parked next to the KLM DC8 is a Convair, with a BEA Comet parked behind. The two Caravelles in the shot pioneered the ventral airstairs for boarding, ala the Boeing 727 and the DC9 which came along much later.
Chris:
Thanks for the informative info on the scene.
Looks like there is an observation deck along part of the terminal building as there are folks "observing" or perhaps pondering if they will ever be able to fly from London to New York City in 3 hours and 30 minutes at Mach 2. Never happen!
