Cool! The original "Silver One." Great capture! There is a "Silver One" today, but it isn't silver anymore - it just has a "Silver One" decal on the nose.

Alien, originally, it was brought into the Southwest fleet with this "livery" (ie: bare polished metal) to celebrate SWA's 25th Anniversary year. Not only was it bare polished metal silver (as you captured here), it also had all the SW employees' names on the overhead storage bins as a form of recognition to them. (I only heard about that; I never actually saw it, so I don't know if that is true or not.) If I am remembering correctly, the shiny metal was creating problems so sometime around the turn of the century this one was painted gray to cover the bare metal and solve the problem(s) while still maintaining its "Silver One" appearance. Eventually, the decision was made to discontinue the "silver fuselage" idea and just have the nose decal on a standard livery fleetbird.
