McDonnell Douglas DC-10 (N573SC) - KPHX - faded brain, but probably April 1999 or earlier at DynaCorp?? modification facility - there was always a jet here I'd never seen before and lucky for me this soon to be ex Sun Country -10 was on the ramp. Im guessing but I think this was one of a few -10s that went to Skyservice Airlines. They also better get a new Air-stair truck as that last climb into the Jet looks difficult. There were 2 mini DC-9s on the right of the -10 I'll post a photo of that later as that has a UAL 737 rolling by with the 2 DC9s in the shed. yes, it is raining, rare for PHX the times I had been there. This building was eventually torn down a few years later and I was not happy on my next visit when I saw that the building had been removed.

Per the FAA registration site, this DC-10 was deregistered on 12/08/1999. The reason given for the deregistration was "destroyed." At the time that its registration was cancelled, it was owned by General Aviation Technologies, Inc., of Lake Zurich, IL.

Nice one Tom, the tail cone is off the DC-9, with a big stand under it. We used to have to do a tail cone drop test on the 9's and the MD's, It was an emergency exit. There was a walkway from the aft cabin Emer door that led to the tail cone. Great picture!

Thanks Michael...DaveS..correct I'll post another photo tonight on that DC9 with the tailcone off. Years ago that cone was used in an MD emergency diff airline, but I do not remember with one..tyvm.

Full 5 * here, T. Seeing this old SCX scheme makes me wish that they would paint one of their current fleet in this Retro livery. Of course, I am fully aware that the $$ crunch caused by the Covid crisis means the airlines won't be dropping big bucks to paint special liveries*. (*Except Volaris - they just put a new scheme in the air - Wonder Woman, but I'm sure that one was funded by the movie folks.) Maybe someday Sun Country will paint one in this scheme.
