McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom 2 (PE680) - The only privately owned F-4 Phantom II in the USA, still flying. One day fly-in to Lone Star Flight Museum at EFD 2 days before the 2019 WOH airshow. They let us get up close and personal during engine start and taxi. They had to tell some people not to stand behind the engines during start-up!

Great shot. Urgh, only goes to prove how stupid some people are.

Thanks, Gavin! The F-4 Phantom was an awesome plane to see in action and LOUD! I saw one of the airshows at Ellington Air force Base in the 70s when the Thunderbirds were still flying the Phantoms, but it could also have been the Blue Angels, because they both flew the F-4 in the same time frame. The only time both aerobatic teams flew the same aircraft.

Indeed they were loud. The RAAF here had some loaned from the USAF while they waited delivery of the first F-111s. I was lucky enough to see some at airshows at RAAF Edinburgh in '71 and '72. In '71 four took off before the show and disappeared. Scared the b'jesus out the of the crowd when they roared in from behind to open the show. I was one of a few who was looking in the right direction only because I suspected something.
