Nice photo :D
I Like, not lost a minute!!!!!!
The 757's got everything dragging except the co-pilots shorts. Must have raised the pucker factor in the tower a little? Thank god they were company A/C's.
So close, what would happen if the MD-80 had to abort takeoff?
These long shot photos are a bit deceptive regarding distance between a/c. Still time for an Go Around - but not much.
Fantastic action shot !
I've see this many times at SAN!
Hi Les, the MD-80 is beyond the "point of no return" as it looks like it is rotating (Vr). Should it need to abort, the pilot will be forced to climb out and "go-around" per tower instructions and published missed approach/ go-around procedures.
That would be runway 10 at FLL.
AA planes not allowed on any other runway. Besides the diagonal runway has been torn up for quite awhile.
I have been in exactly that situation landing at FLL. Legally as long as the preceding aircraft is off the ground you are good. In the event of a go around, a slight turn to the right or left to offset keeps the conflict to a minimum.
The telephoto is deceptive.

great quality for such an old picture
Jimkwalton, as the caption says under the photo (click on the photo to open it larger), the photo was taken of ops on FLL's diagonal runway 13, not runway 10. Runway 9L-27R was closed for weeks for repaving and turnoff improvements. Runway 13/31 offered the best photo opportunities from outside the airport fence of just about any runway action I've ever taken over 52 years but it was subject to BSO harassment and threat of arrest post 9/11. Unfortunately runway 13/31 was rarely used because of noise abatement reasons and, as you say, it is now gone forever. : (
Nice!!!!
great
What happened to the 2 or 3 minute separation?
nice
Great shot! I have seen this happen at KRDU(with the same aircraft)!
6000ft and airborne! now thats how you push tin!
This is a totally cool picture. Enjoy the pespective of long lenses. Thanks for sharing
