My favorite airplane of all time having worked on it in Takhli Thailand in 1967 with the 355TFW.

This F-105G was assigned to the 35TFW, 562TFS, George AFB, CA. I was the flight surgeon assigned to the 562TFS from 1975 to 1977.

I can't see the air intake(s). Can someone help?

The Thud! Carswell AFB had them in the 70's. I was an USAF ATC'er in SW OK and we worked them daily into R-5601.

IIRC most F-105's didn't have a back seat.

I was trying to vector a F-105 in front of a C5-A. Told the Thud to maintain 250knots until the final approach fix. About 12 mile final I had the necessary separation and told the thud to; "Resume normal speed. What will that be?" The answer was 250knots.

No wonder they were call "The Lead Sled".

I was at Nellis AFB in the late '70s/early'80s when all of the F-105 units; AF, AFR and ANG,participated in the Red Flag Exercise. It was quite a site to see the sky filled with THUDs.
