Constructed as a 1956? de Havilland L-20A-DH/U-6 Beaver
type designator = DHC2
Did you hear the one about a Army Beaver pilot landing at a AF base? The base had experienced a wheels up landing incident and was reminding everyone on approach, "gear down?" The Beaver pilot replied, "gear down and welded".
Elegante'!
If that tail number actually goes with that airframe, it is one of the Beavers the USAF took from the Army when they conned Congress into limiting Army flyable equipment to rotary-wing. I LOVE that aircraft, it was the focus of my first wrench-bender military occupational specialty and I was therefore totally POed when the USAF 'stole' them from us. But I loved my Huey all the more, it was just as tough and even more operationally flexible. It just burned a boat load more fuel.
The Army only agreed to "armed" fixed-wing released to the Air Force. They have lots of "unarmed" fixed-wing aircraft.
