That cage is indeed where one can go out and walk on the wing.
The cage is just a safety feature, of course.

I know where there's a gang of classic 747s waiting to get chopped up. This would be a really neat way to use one of them!

If you are in the US Westcoast, visit the Evergreen Museum in McMinnville,OR. They have a B747 on the roof of their Pool, four flores up, you get to climb up to it, then slide in a tubesystem into the 91000 gallon Pool all day long. Lotsa fun for the young and old waterplungers. The Museum also has the Howard Hughes Spruce Goose, the largest Seaplane ever build and about two hundred aircraft from around the world. A place to spend a whole week in. About 35 miles south of Portland OR. You would not regret a visit.
