Aerospatiale Concorde (G-BOAF)
G-BOAF.IN THIS PICTURE OF FLIGHT DECK AND WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PICTURE IT IS AND SEE THE DESIGN OF FLIGHT CONTROLS THEN COMPARED TO FLY BY WIRE NOW.
Comments
The flight controls on Concorde were fly-by-wire, but with analog computers, not digital. The engine controls were also -by-wire. Amazing that this technology was on the drawing boards in the mid-1960s and was demonstrated to be successful with the first flight of the world's first (and so far, only) supersonic commercial passenger airplane in March 1969. A few months later, similar technology using very rudimentary digital computers, proved capable of launching humans into space, landing them on the moon and returning them safely to earth. Bold men and women, those engineers -- daring and courageous the pioneering airmen and astronauts who trusted them.
Pete, the soviet Tupolev Tu-144 was the first supersonic airliner to fly, December 31, 1968...3 months ahead of the Concorde.
