N110JY — - The most bizarre, funky and weirdest plane youll ever see. The YAK-110 is two YAK-55s put together to create the YAK 110. They also put a nice big jet engine down the middle. br /Full Quality Photo --> a rel=nofollow href=http://www.jetphotos.com/photo/9000314https://www.jetphotos.com/photo/9000314/a

The wonderful world of experimental aviation.

Do they ever use the jet engine, or is it just for looks? Surprised they didn't go with "255" rather than 110.

Alan, yes they did use the engine.

Thrust > drag !
With the jet at idle, and and the props near 100%, it was basically hovering in the vertical. I'd like to see the climb rate on this thing! This guy performed at the Hill AFB (UT) Airshow a couple weekends ago.

Thanks John Greenstine, good video

John, thank you for the link.

Weird indeed.

Another really weird design was the Nazi Blohm and Voss BV 141(it never made it into mass production). A reconnaissance aircraft with the cockpit on one wing - quite asymmetrical. Not sure how to post a picture - easy to Google up.

Hmmmm...why does this remind me of Red Green...and duct tape!?!
I really thought went I first looked at this picture I had something wrong with my eyes! Cool looking flying machine!
Amazing, John! Congrats.

What is the aim of the game??????
serge LOTH - Because they could... just to see if it would really fly... a “science project” as is said!!! :-)

North American did a similar thing to the Mustang 60 odd years ago.
Reminds me of the twin Ercoupe.
