This supersized drone will fly you to work (or anywhere)

It's happened. Someone built a quadcopter big enough to carry human cargo. The future is officially here, and it's kinda scary. Scary in the cool way though. The same company that brought us the regular-sized Ghost drone has just announced the "184" Personal Flying Vehicle (PFV). It's about the size of a (very) small car, and claims to be able to deliver one human (up to 260 pounds) anywhere within a 10 mile/23 min flight time reach. A working prototype of the autonomous… (www.engadget.com) Más...

11,000 feet and the pilot has no control. Get out of my way everybody!

That's what got me. And a 10 mile range? I guess if you just work on the other side of a mountain!

Well, a dual color reading light! Sign me up. Imagine the jealousies this will create the first time it lands in the company parking lot. As long as we are dreaming, I'm thinking of waiting for a Rocketeer backpack for those ten mile hops.

Judging by the lifting capabilities of current drones I can't see this lifting a human beyond it's first birthday.

Hey fellas, the helicopter already exists.

8 rotors spinning at knee height. Yeah, no way this can end badly.

I think that for 200-300K, I'd be taking flying lessons and buying my own (probably used) airplane and flying that instead. If anything goes wrong in this drone, I guess the human passenger is just toast. An 'air taxi' service would make a whole lot more sense.

It slices, it dices, it even Juliennes potatoes to get that rippled look. Can see this one parked with momma tossing vegetables at it to get that one minute salad preparation done for the party. Is it capable of autorotating or do you just ride to your death when a motor quits?

That's a funny picture. As far as a motor failure, I believe quad-copters can maintain stability on three. Two, not so much. Autorotation is out of the picture but maybe a ballistic parachute?
