Sacramento Airport to Build On-site Solar Farm

Enviado

Saddled with over a billion dollars of debt stemming from construction of the new Terminal B and concourse building, Sacramento International Airport raised airport use fees, making it one of the most expensive places in the country for airlines to do business. They now hope to reduce those fees by building two solar farms on airport grounds to reduce energy costs and lower those fees. (www.sacbee.com) Más...

And how is that going to help as the cost recovery will be years in the making until then its pay pay pay unless they think its going to help there image.

Compared to the 3 bay area airports, it actually would, especially for those going to a destination served by all 4 airports. SMF would have less traffic going to it, be easier to access, especially if you're not in the bay (Vacaville, Fairfield, Antioch, Vallejo). You avoid driving into the Bay altogether.

The farm then has enough energy to run nearly everything at the airport; so without having to pay for the power, they can save the money they'd spend, and lower the fees to the airlines, making it more attractive for them to fly into. Add in the hotel that is going there, and it definitely would be easier.
