NextGen over budget and behind schedule
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Pilots and aircraft owners at all levels of aviation are reluctant to invest in the necessary new equipment for the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). One reason is that the FAA has not clearly defined what benefits will be achieved and when. (generalaviationnews.com) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
My personal opinion is that until they can come out with a final model for all functions and a mandate to have and a good equipment supply/source, most folks won't spend the money. Some have already but as with any other government boondoggle, the equipment will either change and/or require a very expensive software upgrade before it gets in it final form. When I retired the first time and was in the trucking business awhile, the DOT put on this big push to go to electronic log books, which was all well and good, but if your driver got stopped for a roadside check, the first thing the officer wanted to see was a drivers logbook, yet they had no way to hook into the satellite unit to download the data. Same principle.
