NASA Dryden F/A-18 to be Chasing 'FaINT' Sonic Booms
NASA’s Supersonics Project will embark on its latest effort to soften sonic booms when a NASA F/A-18 aircraft takes to the air in a project called Farfield Investigation of No Boom Threshold, or FaINT, beginning in late October. (www1.nasa.gov) Más...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
Will have to see which way this goes... If anyone can do it.. NASA can.
Looks like an exciting project to be involved in.
I think it was the USAF doing it but in the mid 60's, they used Oklahoma City as a guinea pig for quite awhile. Everday about noon, for however long, a fighter of some type flew the same route, from Northeast to Southwest, and BOOMED OKC every day, and it was fairly low level. On a clear day, you could see the plane. They finally quit as the claims started piling up for such things as cracks in brick mortar, busted windows, etc. Apparently they didn't learn enough to mitigate it as the Concorde came after it and SS speed has pretty much restricted. One of the comments in the article is that in the not too distant future SS flight will be the norm. It will all be interesting.
Ss flight will be in electric planes (knock offs of the volt) as we are green now. Takes entirely too much jp4 to push through the sound barrier. With electric they just wire the batteries is series. Lol
