Airbus A330-200 (N819CA) - A fairly rare sight here at RNO is the arrival of a larger Airbus, but about every other month or so we get the pleasure of seeing something other than little A319s, A320s, and (of course) Boeing's 737s. Here, National's N819CA, an A332, is flaring out to put the mains down on the 17L concrete as it arrives from Cherry Point (KNKT), N. Carolina, about 12 minutes before straight up high noon to drop off a full planeload of United States Marines.br /This was the first of two roundtrip runs (KNKT-KRNO-KNKT-KRNO) that N819CA made over a two day time span to drop off Marines. It was a treat to have several opportunities to get snaps of an A332 and I made full use of the opportunities; catching it arriving here the first time it came from Cherry Point and getting more captures the next day as it departed enroute to Yuma International (KNYL).

My utmost admiration of the Marines who come to this airport enroute to the brutal high mountain training they will undergo has no bounds. When they arrive, almost none have no true idea of what lies in store for them over the next weeks, but by the time they are transported by bus back to RNO to head back to Cherry Point, those men and women are indeed aware they what they have just completed is training that over 80% of US citizens could not endure. Over the past decade, I've watched thousands of Marines come thru RNO either enroute to the Bridgeport site or returning from it, and each time my admiration only grows stronger. Marines Rock!!! Another great 5-Star Shot Gary, and thank you for your acknowledgement of our Marines! 10-Stars for that! We had the pleasure of hosting 819 here at IND several times over the past few weeks. She is a great looking aircraft.

Nice shot and nicer comments Gary.

Great shot! I had two friends who went thru this program back in the mid 50's. To their dying days, they would talk about how tough that training was.
