I got my primary training and license in this airplane from 1969-1970. It belonged to Del Norte County Unified School District and was used in the flying program at the High School. Don Clausen was instrumental in getting the program started and taught the classes and was the flight instructor until he was elected to Congress. When Don left for Washington my father in law to be, Jerry Anderson took over. At some point Keith Wise was hired as a fulltime teacher. After Keith left Ardy Sveum took over. The program ended some years later as programs were being cut in the schools and the insurance got too high. I remember being told that the program was being insured by Lloyds of London.
Flight training in High School..? WOW! Most kids I know can't even read an analog clock. Do you remember what you (or your parents) had to pay for these classes John?
Mark,
The ground school (Aero 1 and Aero 2) were considered science classes. There was NO cost. When I started flying this airplane we paid $2/hr for the first 10 hours, $4/hr from 10 to 50 hours and $6 an hour over 50 hours. The prices went up in 1973 to 0 - 50 hours $5/hr and 50+ hours $7/hr. I shoudl have amassed $100 in this aircraft and N55394, but alas, I was young and stupid.

John,
You were in the band, right? Drum Major? I think I rode with you and Keith Wise up to
Brookings on the first day of my freshman year. You were shaking out the cob webs from not flying all summer. :-D
