The airliner was approaching Palermo on its final approach with reported thunderstorms and windshear in the area. On landing the airliner veered off the runway. Both main landing gear collapsed after leaving the runway. The aircraft was extensively damaged. Reports varied on the number of minor injuries, ranging from three to 20 people. DANVERS, Mass. — Maybe these bees were too tired to fly for themselves. A gang of honeybees landed on the wing of a plane used for flight school training at Beverly Airport. At first, the 10,000 or so bees swarmed over the left side of the aircraft, then landed on top of the left wing. The owner of the flight center called police, who said to call local bee removal expert Al Wilkins. The experimental X-15 Waverider aircraft is being readied to make a Mach 6 flight (six times the speed of sound) over the Pacific ocean, according to the Department of Defense. A cross between an airplane and a rocket, the Waverider is so-named because it stays partly aloft from the lift created by its own shock wave.
