I wonder what daylight will bring. It is almost a blessing that the airport is no longer a hub for any airline. All the terminals are mostly unused now.

I was there two weeks ago, and it is sad what has become of Lambert, and just as sad to see the abandoned McDonnell-Douglas buildings across the field.

With the loss of the American hub, Southwest (which is probably unaffected way down in Terminal E) is now the largest airline presence there.

It is sad how it has went down, but it all started with TWA, and I can't help but think of the contrast between them and a company like Southwest. Just a simple thing like landing. I can remember hanging out over Illinois for what seemed like forever on a straight in final. That was long enough, but then to land halfway down the runway and dawdle back to the gate, Sothwest would have turned an aircraft in all that extra time. Herb figured out years ago that utilization meant profit. The evidence speaks for itself.

hard to believe that lambert got hi that bad as it was once a real nice airport. maybe this storm will make the people realize that they need to upgrade and start gettings airlines back there to bring everything back to its glory days

I was on flight 699 at C12 when the storm hit. A wild ride for about 15 seconds...glad it hit the concourse harder than us

I guess we all have stories of how things were, but what gets me about
St Louis in general is that while all the modernization and new stuff is all out in the county, I haad occasion to go up there and send some time a few years ago. First time I had been up there to spend any time in years, probably since the late 60's. Downtown just seemed like an area locked in time. Everything looked basically the same as it had 30 years before.

Hi Wayne. It's called "white flight." St. Louis decreases by 1 million citizens as St. Charles, St. Peters, Webster Groves, Kirkwood, Festus, and a myriad of other cities outside the I-255/I-270 beltway grow by 1 million people. Because of this, St. Louis is a dying city with its suburbs more or less thriving.

Bryan, I know you are right, sad part is,they are not the only city in that shape. It just seems more pronounced or obvious up there and that there is no attempt to change it.Maybe it's because of the familiarity, I don't know, but it is still sad.

It is incredibly sad.
And the City of St. Louis does not help matters much by continuing to rely on a city income tax applied to its residents -- there is no incentive for anyone to move back into the city.
There are revivals here and there, small things that ought to be celebrated. The redevelopment of the North Grand Boulevard area where the Fox Theater, Opera Theater of St. Louis, and Powell Hall are all much nicer now than they were just a decade ago. But it is taking a long time -- too long, to continue the revival.
