Seems odd with so many large aircraft, B747s, B777, going to scrape yard.. why not covert some to bargo.. we all know boxes pay way better..

It is surprising there has been no move to finish the second AN-225 which is partially assembled,

Yeah, I think Antonov Airlines probably not well capitalized enough to do it. Or maybe some other reasons, political etc. Not sure

Finishing the AN-224 would not be economically feasible right now. It will cost upwards of $350-400 million to finish.
Yes it's called an `
1AN-224 because unlike it's brother, designs state it would have a normal tail and rear cargo doors (the inital design for the 225). The 225 had it's odd tail and no rear doors due to it's design to carry Buran and the boosters.

Flightaware has got to put an edit feature in here. Yes it's called an AN224....disregard that 1 in front of the AN

That is really a small price to py for an aircraft with essentially no developmnet costs and with many of the pieces sitting there. Ownership may be a problem.

Actually many pieces are not sitting there. There is no inner workings made, the landing system would need to be completed, wings finished, tail assembly fabricated etc. Unless other companies hopped on board, $400mil invested into an aircraft that would not see any type of returns for decades would bankrupt a single company.

Boeing toyed with the idea a few years ago of helping complete the second airframe, I think. Obviously the economics are difficult here.

Very difficult. It would be great if the aircraft could have a regular schedule and turn a profit, but Mriya barely makes a profit each run. That plus tariffs for western parts (thanks U.S. Trade Representative Office..another fine screwup on your part)would make finishing it a nightmare.

Interesting.
