Let's tell the FAA this is too far, and sign the petition to combat this silly new fee! (www.change.org) Más...

Well I hope this petition grabs the FAA's attention but as usual when does anything get's the FAA attention...They want people to spend there hard earned money for aviation charts to where you can get it for free (and should be free forever) off of FA and other sites. I mean like everyone else is saying we're already paying taxes for the Gov. then the Gov. ships our money over to the FAA so aren't they getting enough money already?

And how is the FAA going to recover those expenses if we don't have to pay? Either we pay our fair share, by fuel taxes, chart fees, etc, or it's going to be user fees for everyone. Just because you don't have to pay does not mean that that money is going to create itself; it has to come from somewhere. My only issue is that the people won't be able to buy the charts directly from the FAA, but rather through businesses - that's going to be problematic.

The FAA is a federally funded agency. They get their funding from the Government which gets it's funding from taxation.

Rather than make the reasonable sounding argument of how can the FAA recover it's expenses, I ask why do we have to pay for something that our taxes are already paying for?

I'd rather see less welfare and bailouts so the FAA won't need to charge us to perform the function it was created and funded to do.

Or, cut the federal funding from the FAA, cut our taxes proportionally, and then fund the FAA directly from the aviation industry. I know the aviation industry is already overtaxed. We all are. But that would be another "pay as you go" type of alternative.

I don't have the answers, but someone has to ask the questions.

And the government needs to take less from those of us who work and pay taxes.

Just my .02.

Agree with you Boyd....That's similar to being a smoker but always bumming smokes from somebody else...support your habits!

Boyd and Toby everyone is already paying for this with taxes. They never were actually "free" but created by either Federal employees whose salaries are paid for by taxes or Contractors who received Federal tax dollars to create these "free" charts. So, I would reply to your point: Why should taxpayers have to pay for something twice?

Gary, your point is the same as mine. We have already paid for these charts through our taxes. If they want to impose a small fee for posting in the internet for download I am OK with that. But the cost of posting them for download is minimal.

It misses most people that the FAA is already a self funded agency, now it needs to turn a profit for other parts of the government?

Because of the simple issue above, charging 'extra' for charts or flight plans, is bordering usury.

Marcus, I may be misinformed. Please cite your source for the FAA's self-funded status.

Fuel & Ticket taxes.. for starters.

Assuming the $30Million that was claimed went uncollected daily during the Operating Authority gap this summer, my math brings in at least $11Billion.

"Fuel & Ticket taxes.. for starters."

IMNSHO that's not self-funded. That's funded by taxation. What product does the FAA produce to generate revenue to actually fund itself?

Why not its for a group of people that use them so why should everyone pay for something that just a few use. Get over it pay your own way dont make everyone pay it.

Your comment is shortsighted. Freely available charts support not only a vast hobbyist community, but also make it possible for people with limited means to even get into flight training and flying for things like the airlines.

Charging for the charts would reduce the pool of available pilots, and that's something we'd all pay dearly for.

Are you kidding me?! No no no no you got it wrong charts should be free for simulator and real flight navigation flights. And should be free forever I have no clue why the FAA wants to do this but I always remind myself just another way to get money from me.
