Could the Flight aware Predictive Technology be used for getting positional data related to mishaps such as the MH370 flight which disappeared?

Well there is scope for research in this area I guess. If system is turned off from the cock pit some redundancy measures could be looked at like perhaps the engine Canbus linked to a remote frame which progressively geofences its path once its crossed...just an idea!

No. FlightAware only knows where airplanes are because their positions are reported to them. The MH370 mystery wouldn’t happen today. Airplanes over the ocean are datalink equipped and automatically make periodic position reports.

Actually datalink isn’t required. Aireon provides space-based ADS-B data which airlines can use to meet position reporting requirements. As far as I know, they still partner with FlightAware to do that. https://aireon.com/tag/flight-tracking/
