Can't help wondering about the logic being shown:

"We've retired aircraft that are only 6.5 years old because we don't want to spend $25 million on new landing gear"
"We're taking delivery of the last aircraft off the production line in 2021"
"The last aircraft will leave our fleet in 2035"

So if they don't want to spend $25 million on the landing gear now, why are they going to spend $50 million (upwards) on the last aircraft?

Fairly obvious really, cost of spares is way more than cost of new in todays throwaway world so breaking up a few to create a spares bank saves money overall.

Perhaps you misunderstood:

Today, landing gear for a 6.5 year old plane is $25 million. We'll retire the aircraft as it's too expensive to maintain.

We're taking delivery of the last A380 in 2021 (cost is irrelevant, but certainly a few million more than 25)

14 years (and 2 new landing gears later, cost $25 million plus each, allowing for inflation) and we'll retire the aircraft.

Why? Why not retire the 2021 model in 2028 when it needs a new gear at $25+ million?
