The assumption that pilots work 1800 (billable) hours per year is incorrect. In the US they are limited to 100 hrs/mo. by the FAA. This is 1200/yr. Most pilot's flying hours are ~80/mo.

With FAR 117 it is a rolling 12 months with a maximum of 1000 hours. But with vacation, training and some over time most airline pilots usually have their W2 that show roughly 1000 x (hourly rate) and fly much less.

Overproductions or undermath...? At 1800 flight hours per year, that poor pilot is working twice as much as he's (she's) legally permitted (well, 1.8 times...) plus way outside the union agreement. Additionally, at 79k he'd be one of the worst-paid 320 drivers in the industry, even in the LCCs in Europe. Sure glad I don't work there...

the complaints aren't so much "economy costs hundreds of dollars" but "we're not getting our money's worth": inflation-adjusted economy seats cost as much as they did mid-90s but we get luggage fees that turn boarding into chaos, bus seats that cut off circulation, $6 for two biscuits, and the constant knowledge that the economy experience is being salami-sliced to fill the business and economy-plus moneymakers; the talk of "economy minus" only seems to prove to flyers that the airlines aren't really treating them like this only because they insist on low ticket prices

A person who drives a car is called a driver. The rest of the people in the car are passengers. Not so for pilots? "Passengers" and "flyers" are the same thing, in most people's vocabulary. What do pilots call themselves and the the other non-crew people on the aircraft? We park on a driveway, and drive on a parkway; items transported on a ship are called the ship's cargo", and what is transported by truck is a "shipment". Typical for the English language, right?

The hourly rate for the crew is way off. A United Captain with over 12 years of service make $246 an hour, the FO with 5 years of service is $147 an hour and the flight attendants are about $45 an hour.

One Hundred hours per month? Put in layman's terms that is Ten eight hour days. What is the maximum hours a Pilot is allowed to fly in one leg of a trip, legally?

Welcome back, Sir! I missed your nonsensical rants about "FLYERS". Aside from your nonstandard spelling (flier is the traditionally accepted spelling), let's look at a couple definitions, shall we?

Flier
1. a person or thing that flies, especially in a particular way.
"a nervous flier"
synonyms: air traveler, airline/air passenger, airline customer, jet-setter
"frequent flyers"

I believe the normal term of art for "the folks who drive the things" is "pilot"

Pilot
1. a person who operates the flying controls of an aircraft.
synonyms: airman/airwoman

For all your arrogance and pomposity, I've seen you contribute very little, if any meaningful content to the discussions on here. I'd kindly ask that you tone down the rhetoric, ease up on the attacks, and enjoy some conversation with people who both want to learn more and people who are in the know.

The folks in the front, doing the actual piloting of the airplane are called "pilots". Anyone aboard the aircraft would be a "flyer"... JMHO
