Ryanair refused to give £2,000 refund to 27 tourists who cancelled their flights

Ryanair has refused to give a refund to 27 British holidaymakers who cancelled their flights to Brussels while the Belgian city was under a terror lockdown. Maria Doolan, from Liverpool, had booked a weekend break to celebrate her 60th birthday with friends and family, but decided not to travel after the Belgian government raised the terror threat and asked residents to stay indoors and avoid crowded places. But when they tried to cancel their flights and seek a refund for more than £2,000 in… (www.dailymail.co.uk) Más...

Predictable from Ryanair and the pax should have known better or got insurance. I would NEVER fly Ryanair. I have had excellent experience with EasyJet who are way less combative.

Ryanair is in the business of taking people's money, not giving it back. They usually have to fly the ticketed passengers after doing so, but any opportunity to avoid it will probably be taken. They may figure that the weight saved by those 27 non-fliers saves a bit on the fuel bill. Am reminded of the customer service rep Helen Waite. Problem resolution? Go to her.

People looking for the lowest bottom line and business caring only about their bottom line. Cheap versus greed. Common sense versus common business. It's predictable and sad.

What the hell did they cancel for?? No crowds, special attention at all the restaurants and bars, and plenty of protection.

The point here is that these types of lockdowns are becoming sufficiently commonplace that airlines are going to begin to treat them as a risk to the traveler.

No they won't. If the plane flies then their cancellation policies apply.

That is why you should get Travel Insurance!

Even though I have not flown in Europe, I would be well aware of any conditions put on any mode of economy transportation.
People today gravitate towards the cheapest way to travel but forget that like any other form of cheap transportation, if you decide to get off, just like a bus driver, you will be let off. No refund.
RyanAir (like the bus) completed its trip to the destination. The flight was not cancelled.
Todays airline travel is merely a taxi or bus service. We should expect service no different than that.

Hopefully they will take a look at their policies as there are always new situations that arise. At the very least they must accommodate the passengers on future flights as their is value in the tickets. Over 2000 pounds, so a lawsuit would be otherwise necessary as this is no small amount.

Good for Ryanair. Unless there was an actual travel ban then they are not entitled to refunds. If you don't spend and extra tenner or so for insurance then it's your own fault!

Read the airline's terms and conditions BEFORE booking. It's too late after the money has changed hands. I make it a rule that whenever I travel on holidays I take out travel insurance. It's not expensive for the value it provides. I missed a flight to Singapore from London due to Air Lingus being 3 hours late. I had to purchase two Business class tickets on Singapore Airlines to get the Singapore for a cruise. Total cost over $ 8000 Australian, which was refunded by my travel Insurer without problems. It's the only smart thing to do. If you can't afford the few extra dollars for travel Insurance, you can't afford to travel.

I would have never have made that trip, refund or not. The threat was real, besides no one in their right mind would want to go with all those damn cats I saw on Twitter.
