I can't win the LOTO but I am the lucky one that gets the extra attention by TSA including a pat down every - every time I fly. Last time they asked if I had a steal plate in my head, the scanner showed something besides my brain in there. Anyone who knows me knows there is nothing in there.

That was quite funny.. I also found out that when I send a Mechanic on the aircraft to go fix another plane at an outstation he can carry his tools.... However, he cannot have an 8" pair of slip joint pliers, but he is able to have a 5 3/4" awl and a hammer with him or her.

Go figure...

One other thing that I found out... I can bring the Bone of a T-bone steak on my carry on luggage to give to my Dog... They questioned it once saying it made the bags look suspicious, but when I pack it separately and let them scan it separately there are no questions.

Sometimes we bring fresh California lemons from our son's tree. They have been mistaken for hand grenades.

Remember: the same people that make these silly rules now are going to be managing your health. Good luck with that young'un. Better save up some cash if you want good healthcare. Lol

More bad news. The same people carrying out these silly rules are the same group hired to determine whether your insurance covers your condition. That is the American way private health insurance. They just don't wear badges and get in your face.

Someone had questions about their Medicare Part D drug coverage, so I made a call. Of the 5 people asked about Oncology not being listed on the formulary, none but one even knew what I was taking about. The typical response was "What's oncology?" (I was thinking, 'This is what passes for customer service of a major Part D provider.'

Maybe they were all recently hired (for a new program) and had no experience taking calls, but their medical knowledge was horrible.

If you didn't have the name and correct spelling of a drug, there wasn't much they could do for you. Most people who have never needed chemo, will be ill prepared to know which specific meds may be needed in a hypothetical future situation. It is insurance afterall.

Not knowing, and not being able to give a clear answer about whether the most expensive category of commonly used drugs are covered in a "drug plan"

Looks to me like we will morph to a two tier system. Them with insurance will get very mediocre care ( not at all what you used to get with insurance) and them with cash to pay for quality care and meds. To try and fix a 15% problem we are ruining the care for the other 85%. That is just plain stupid.

Two tier system is already here. We are going toward a 3-tier system: the rich, the (shrinking) insured, and the rest that get squat.
(he said cheerily)

The squat and the insured will be the same. Cash will buy quality care ( not just for the rich, expect to spend more of your life savings for quality). I have always said the idiots in government will not outsmart the medical profession OR the insurance companies. Now the insurance companies will get paid for doing less and less supported by their government "friends". Many of my doctor friends are already converting to a cash type business in their own facilities away from the control of hospitals and government. Over the last couple of decades I have incurred some huge medical bills in my family. I never had an insurance plan that was Cadillac. My wife and my son received quality care (life saving) at top facilities of our choosing. My out of pocket expenses never exceeded $10k in either case. I would call that a bargain. So this substandard insurance works for most. So instead of lifting the 15% up we are dragging the 85% down. Good deal? Only if you want the government to be your nanny. And the gov definitely wants that.

I don't disagree with you. My point it that this is the same mechanism under which the current private insurance companies work. Low-paid, untrained, script readers making life-or-death coverage decisions on a daily basis is the norm in some of the large health insurance companies. Then the goal is to transfer wealth from insurance payers to the shareholders of the insurance company in the most efficient manner, things like claims, reimbursements to clients and providers needs to be minimized. The underlying concept is "if it doesn't fit the script, or if you don't understand it, deny". Most people won't appear the decision which is their right. That's where some of the profits lie.

If you realize that Medicare Part D drug coverage was written by and for the pharmaceutical companies, you can see why there is no concept of volume discount pricing.

If the insurance companies could get away with moving more of their decision process and customer service to the script readers of Mumbai, they would.
