Tug crushed by American Airlines 737 at La Guardia Airport

Earlier today, an American Airlines Boeing 737-800 with registration N949NN was scheduled to depart La Guardia Airport in New York for Charlotte on Tuesday morning. However, that did not happen. As the aircraft was being towed from a hangar to the gate, the tug collided with the aircraft leaving it crushed underneath the fuselage. According to reports, the tug driver was not injured but was taken to the hospital as a precaution. The plane was empty. The tug was later dislodged, and the aircraft was moved to a hanger to assess the damage. Passengers were later sent to a nearby gate, where another plane was quickly brought in to operate the flight.

An American Airlines spokesperson said in a statement: Early this morning, an aircraft under tow at LaGuardia Airport (LGA) collided with a super tug operated by American Airlines personnel while being repositioned from the hangar to the gate. Safety is our highest priority, and we’ve launched an internal investigation to learn more.
