Report: Both Engines on All Nippon 787 Quit After Landing

All Nippon Airways and Boeing are reportedly investigating an incident on January 17 in Japan in which both engines on a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner shut down simultaneously on rollout after landing.

Flight NH985 from Tokyo Haneda Airport to Osaka Itami Airport with 118 people on board was rolling down the runway after touchdown when the pilots watched both Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines roll back and shut down as they attempted to activate the thrust reversers, according to the Japanese aviation and travel site samchui.com.

The crew allowed the powerless 787 to roll until it came to a stop about 8,000 feet down the runway. The runway was reportedly closed before the jetliner could be towed to the gate about 40 minutes later.

Despite troubleshooting the problem with maintenance over the telephone, the crew could not relight the engines, the report said. After an inspection by maintenance personnel, Japanese media reported, no problems with the jetliner could be found.
