JOHNSON COUNTY, Kan. — Severe thunderstorms that rolled through the metro on Monday night left some T-Hangars and airplanes damaged at the Johnson County Executive airport, leading airport personnel to close shut it down for the night.

The airport at 151st and Pflumm caters to corporate flyers and general aviation users. No injuries were reported.

“About 9:40 this evening, we got a call to come out and check a building that had collapsed. We had a hangar that only parts were standing. Most of that building is gone. Full of planes, a plane or two is upside down. Thankfully, nobody is hurt. We are checking the damage around the surrounding area here at the airport, working with airport officials,” said Olathe Fire Captain Mike Hall.

“The airport has been shut down since about that time, 9:40ish and we are really waiting on the sun to come up and see what we got. We were pretty busy all night long. This is the worst damage we have seen.”

A loss estimate wasn’t immediately available. It’s assumed that the airport will remain closed on Tuesday, FOX 4 will provide an update when officials decide to reopen it.
