The tornado first touched down around 6:35pm, reports the Hutchinson News. It had dissipated by 7pm.
Thankfully, the storm was very slow-moving.
'It's been pretty much stationary,' Robb Lawson of the National Weather Service in Wichita said while the storm still raged.
Heat exceeding 100 degrees had made conditions in the region ripe for a serious storm.
'Heat and humidity increase the instability (of air masses). Thunderstorms thrive off of it,' Lawson told Hutchinson News.
Those dangerous conditions were expected to continue through the week.
