A Flight Into The Future

Let’s visit a new A350-900 XWB (MSN3) jetliner which is related to a family of new-generation aircraft that corresponds to the requirements of the market perfectly due to the size, range and comfort.

The first flight took place in October 14, 2013.

Test equipment is installed inside the jetliner.

An engineering station is occupied by Airbus specialists who register any basic parameters reflected on the monitor during the flight. It is actually the brain of the jetliner where all the data from the engineering station arrive.

Another additional station.

The jetliner underwent several tests. One high-altitude flight test occurred in Bolivia, La Paz. La Paz International Airport is the highest international airport in the world, being at an elevation of 13,325 feet above sea level. The test will help to collect data on engine operating characteristics.

Low temperature trial was undertaken in Canada. During the test temperature was down to -28C. They checked flight performance of the plane. The trials included: APU and engine starts after cold soak; verifying system behavior; low-speed taxi and aborted take-offs.

Island of Martinique was chosen to carry out high temperature trials.

Currently, 2 planes such as MSN1 and MSN3 undergo trials. They performed 200 flights with total duration of 1000 hours. According to the test program, 1500 more hours are left.

Five planes participate in test flight in total. Two of them have a cabin and will be used in a set of tests with passengers aboard.

MSN2 and MSN4 (Qatar Airways) will join the program of test flights in the nearest future. Thus, MSN5 will start its flight in spring. certification of the plane is planned for the III quarter of 2014. It was ordered by Qatar Airways.
